Privacy Policy

Last updated · April 2026

Owo Planner ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information we collect

When you use Owo Planner, we may collect:

  • Account information: Email address and password (if you create an account). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
  • Budget data: Income, budget category allocations, expense logs, and financial health scores that you enter into the tool.
  • Chat data: Messages you send to Owo AI (our AI financial advisor), along with AI responses.
  • Usage data: Aggregated analytics via Plausible Analytics (cookie-free) and Google Analytics 4 (with IP anonymisation and Google signals disabled). Analytics load automatically when you visit the site; you can opt out at any time (see section 11).

2. What we do NOT collect

  • We never connect to your bank account — GTB, Access, Zenith, First Bank, or any other institution.
  • We do not collect your BVN, NIN, credit card numbers, or any banking credentials.
  • We do not use third-party advertising trackers. Google Analytics is configured with ad personalisation and Google signals explicitly disabled.

3. How we use your information

  • To provide the service: Your budget data is stored to display your dashboard, calculate your health score, and power the expense tracker.
  • To power AI advice: When you use Owo AI, your budget context is sent to our AI backend (Gemini 2.5 by Google, with Claude by Anthropic as fallback) to generate personalised financial advice. This data is not stored by these providers after processing.
  • To improve the product: Aggregated, anonymised usage patterns help us understand which features are used and improve the product. We never analyse individual financial data for this purpose.

4. Where your data is stored

Your data is stored on Supabase (our database provider), hosted on secure cloud infrastructure. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Supabase complies with SOC 2 Type II standards.

If you use Owo Planner without creating an account, your data is stored only in your browser's local storage and never leaves your device.

5. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. The only exceptions are:

  • Supabase: Database hosting and authentication (necessary to provide the service).
  • Google (Gemini AI) / Anthropic (Claude AI): AI responses are generated via these provider APIs. Budget context is sent for processing but is not retained.
  • Plausible Analytics: Privacy-friendly analytics — no personal data is collected or shared.
  • Google Analytics 4: Usage analytics with IP anonymisation and Google signals (ad personalisation) disabled. Loaded automatically; opt-out available on request.

6. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data: All your budget data is visible to you in the dashboard at all times.
  • Delete your data: You can delete all your data from the Settings panel in your dashboard. This permanently removes your budget, expense logs, and chat history.
  • Delete your account: Contact us at [email protected] to request full account deletion.
  • Export your data: Owo Planner publishes the Open Financial Standard. Export your full budget as portable JSON anytime.

7. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your data or account, it is permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.

8. Children

Owo Planner is not intended for users under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of Owo Planner after changes constitutes acceptance.

10. Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR)

Owo Planner is operated from Lagos, Nigeria and processes data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019 and the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023. As a data subject under Nigerian law, you have the right to:

  • Be informed about how your data is collected and used (covered by this policy).
  • Access, correct, or delete your personal data on request.
  • Object to processing of your data for specific purposes, including direct marketing.
  • Data portability — request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format (or use the Open Financial Standard export in your dashboard).
  • Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) if you believe your rights have been violated.

Our legal basis for processing is a combination of (a) consent (you sign up or use the tool voluntarily), and (b) performance of a contract (to provide the budgeting service you requested).

11. Cookies, analytics & opt-out

Owo Planner uses Plausible Analytics (cookie-free) and Google Analytics 4 (which sets cookies, configured with IP anonymisation, Google signals disabled, and no ad personalisation). Both load automatically when you visit the site so we can understand which features help Nigerians budget better. We never receive the amounts you enter — tracking is limited to bucketed signals (e.g. "mid income band", "2–5 sessions") and never raw Naira figures.

We also respect your browser's Do Not Track (DNT) signal: if DNT is enabled, no analytics load at all.

To opt out manually at any time: . Already opted out and want to turn it back on? .
